SS Necro - Don't thorw your Villnars away for Stonereaper just yet
The Stone Reaper. The new best friend of the SS Necro. I mean it's the "perfect" staff, right? Well, if you're looking for an all in one weapon, yes, it is. However, if you're a Text book Necro, then this weapon is useless to you. All Guides for the SS Nero tell you specifically you need a "cold" dmg weapon to activate your interrupt "Spinal Shivers" Well, as you can see the Stonreaper is lacking in cold dmg and has Dark dmg instead. So if you want to keep to the text book SS Necro, then Villnars is still your best bet. If you're like me and don't really use Spinal Shivers, it isn't a big deal, but it's something to keep in mind for those who are jumping on the Stonereaper and trying to sell of their Villnar's set really quick

Was Villnar's glove/claw 10/10 previous to the recent Green update i.e. buff to 20/20 [anyone confirm this]?
As I have read a few articles stating that it lacked the 20% chance to halve recharge of Curse spells,.....but my set (obtained yesterday) most definately does have the 20/20.
As if that is the case then now the Villnar's combo has become the ultimate weapon for 55-SS/SV 2 man team in the UW and FoW, if you still have the 10/10 set then yes, sell them quickly !!

Vilnar's Glove + Curse Craftable Wand >> Staff
Staves always blow...if you had unlimited money the only reason you would choose a staff is because you like the skin.
I hope no one got ride of their glove for this thing...ditch the wand though.

I have both the Stonereaper and the 5^50 20 speed Wailing Wand (from crafter) and Villnar's Glove (I couldn't care less for Villnar's Claw). I also use them both. Sometimes a tag more nrg is cool, sometimes I want the armor ignoring Dark Damage.

Im using Wayward Wand 20recharge/+5nrg and 20fc/20fr accursed icon from desert collector... i sold my Villnars Glove as +1(20) adds what? 3dmg per hit? imo its not worth it as 36% @ half recharge and 4% @1/4 recharge... looks much nicer to me

Dark damage is not armor ignoring, shadow damage is.

There's no such thing as SHadow damage. Dark damage IS Armor-Ignoring.
Anyways, for a Curses Necro, reducing cast time doesn't help much, as it doesn't increase the your effectiveness with skills like SS.
Therefore, the best set for a Curses Necro is:
Wayward Wand
20% Recharge
+5 Energy (HP > 50%)
Villnar's Claw
20% Recharge
20% Curses +1
Been using both, and I have been quite happy.

erm ya
erm ya, i have to agree with whoever said the +1 isnt that big of a deal, it isnt; the only few builds id care all that much for are IW mesmer, MM, and Echo Nuker using Meteor shower... mostly not 1 time cast spells, but spells that need it, but then again SS is kinda like it, its all really personal preference. i say REcharge takes Predecence over everything (mispelled that word lol)

The only time I really gain something from faster casting is with being a MM, with a 20/20 wand + 20/20 focus and Bloodstained Boots, you'll usually be the first to get the corpses.

It might be new since Factions release, but there is a such thing as Shadow Dmg Though I have yet to see it on any Necro weapons.

Wrong. Shadow damage is what SS, Desecrate and a few other skills deal. Read your skill descriptions please. Dark damage is what some wands and staves deal, and is NOT armor ignoring.

I say screw Vilar's set AND the Stonereaper. For practicality and space, I've always used a perfect collector's Insightful Wicked Staff of Curses and have always done just fine. Same stats as the Stonereaper with a much nicer, dyable skin. For particular places where I use Shivers, which imo is not necessary 99% of the time even though some people carry it always, I just switch to my +15/-1 Deadly Cesta. That's what weapon switching is for no? SS Necros who feel the need for a cold damage Curse wand are like people who think you need Mending to be able to use vamp mods.
Now, I know a lot of people think wand/focii combinations are better than staves, but for me, being able to carry 5 items insted of 10-12 and do just fine is more important. Anyway, like has been said before, it's all a matter of personal preference.

I was using the Villnar set for the longest time..........until I sarted doing 2 man UW runs, then I realized it's all about recharge, so I got myself a crafted 20% recharge wand, which has cold dam.
The curses Wayward Wand.........DROOL. That would be the ultimate, but friggin hard to get I imagine. I don't suppose there's a Factions collector wand that adds another stat beyond 20% rechard on the wand is there?
Like others, I keep a 15/-1 as an offhand when I have one of my SS's recharged but not enough eng.
edit: I checked out Guru, and there are a few collector wands that are 20% recharge and +5 energy BELOW 50%, that's all we get from Canthan collectors

You can craft 20% Fast Cast/20% Recharge wands from the 15k Armor places.

20% fast cast doesn't excite me for SS......it's a damn fast spell. Wayward Wands are 20% recharge / +5 energy ^50%

What's so hard about it? Just beat the game and use your Amulet.

With a 20/20 wand AND 20/20 offhand there's really no need for Arcane echo, End of discussion.
Screw +1 skills @ 20% chance.

I chose this over the Blood wand, even though I use Blood more often. I'm done with curses equipment now.

iirc Shadow and Dark damage is the same thing (same like cold and water). And no, neither of those ignore armor. Only spell that use them do.... and wand attack doesn't.
